Published 1871, Glasgow by John Crum. 2 volumes, 239, 273 pages. Very attractive period 1/2 grained morocco leather bindings, raised & gilt bands, intricate gilt compartment decorations & title lettering, marbled covers, top edges gilt, edges uncut. Scarce set in such a pleasing quality 19th century binding. Set is not new or in "new" condition but is very well preserved.
Bindings gently rubbed, scuffed and age worn, leather remains supple, gilt is bright, some small minor flaking along joints, overall attractive as a 19th century set. Text block paper is gently toned, internally still fresh, clean, well preserved, tight and sound. Handsome set on the shelf.
